Misprinted Lionheart |

I was just browsing some of the posts here and it made me think of some of the odd Kate stuff I've picked up over the (many) years. For example, I have a
copy of Lionheart on vinyl where the inside of the gatefold sleeve is empty except for the photos of Kate in the middle of each side; another where they forgot
to emboss the gold 'Lionheart' on the front cover and the writing inside is the wrong colour. Both are mint. They might have other oddnesses about
them; I can't remember the details too clearly at this remove, and they're in the loft at the moment. I haven't done any eBaying before, but is
this the sort of thing you recommend that I should be using to provide a little extra income in my old age, or is it not really attractive to anyone?

I remember acquiring a couple of those too, back in `79 when scouring the local record shops asking for any Kate promotional material they did`nt want. They
gave me a couple of empty misprinted Lionheart sleeves, and in the same way you describe, they had no lyrics printed, just Kates photos, and the gold print
missing off the word `Lionheart` etc. Interesting. love Blackbird xx

I wonder if they were used in record shop displays ?

I guess that's possible, although they did have the vinyl inside, which I wouldn't have expected if they were just for window dressing.

I saw several listed (not of this item though) but none exactly inspired a bidding war. It seemed that whilst of passing interest to some of the most ardent collectors they're not really sought after by most. Sorry to disappoint, but I guess it's better to know than to get your hopes up. Monty x It is this that brings us together |

It depends on how you describe it on ebay.

I didn't know there were embossed covers but, checking the Gaffaweb discography, I assume you're referring to the Swedish Harvest release,
which is the only one mentioned there as having any embossing. It also mentions a non-embossed pressing though, so it looks like it's just a later pressing
rather than a mispress. It's quite common for later pressings to miss some of the expensive extras like embossing or gatefolds etc, although the missing
text would presumably qualify.
eBay auctions can be quite unpredicatble. Something that sold well one time might just go unnoticed next time round. |

Forgotten about that - I used to have a ionheart without the lyrics as well. Odd - wonder where they came from?!

As the old saying goes, an item is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
But I would have thought thirty year old promotional material in good nick for an artist of Kate's stature would be quite collectable. As to fixing a value, I guess its down to supply and demand. Just how common were these promo sleeves? Were there hundreds of them produced for distribution around the country? And if so,how many have survived? And in what condition? |

Kestrel wrote:I guess it depends how many DJs and shops were considered worth sending promos to. Presumably there weren't all that many radio stations in 1978/9 and I'd guess that only a few shops would have been influential enough to target, so there probably weren't that many produced. They generally get kept by someone rather than just binned after the promotional period is over so I'd imagine that the majority survived. But some people avidly collect promos and others (like myself) collect the ones that are interesting enough in their own right (eg the ones in unique packaging) so there's always a market. |

My belief was that the original print runs of Lionheart had the title embossed and it was only later runs that didn't. I don't have a copy
that's not embossed. I think I'd quite like a copy without lyrics, I don't have one of those. I do have a white label promo copy though. Quite
chuffed about that.

I think all the original Lionhearts were embossed with Gold type and brown lyrics. It was only when the album was re-released on the cheaper "Fame"
sub-brand of EMI that they went fotr the awful Yellow type on the cover and black lyrics. Truly horrid compared to the original.
