All those hypes - I just got onto Facebook (after being talked into joining Livejournal and MySpace) and now the next stupid networking site comes along
already! I ain't going to join, I already can't keep up with all those darn sites I'm on right now.

That it's all the rage doesn't mean diddly to me. When somebody shows me how it'll make my life better, I'll be interested. Simple as that.

I don't know if it's an "age thing" (and I'm hardly Methuselah!) but I really don't get Twitter. I mean, with all respect to you, Collin, what's the point in you writing and us reading that you're "listening to Kate Bush's "Sat In Your Lap" and about to leave work"? I'm not sure why people
need to be constantly updated on other people's activities.
What do others think? I am genuinely interested in knowing why people think it's a good and interesting thing to bother with. W |

^People are pretty ego-centric, Will. They are convinced that other people want to hear what they are talking about, hence the success of the blogosphere
(shudder), and the sole reason Twitter is such a run-away success. Its all about personal advertising and how to make yourself sound "cool". Twitter
doesn't offer quite the level of interactivity I like, Facebook has it just about level. I am wetting myself laughing sometimes at the comments, threads
and messages that occur in relation to updates, photos and posts. Not surprisingly (given how much I love photographs) I adore the tagging feature and comments
on photos

Maybe twitter is just a symptom of a wider pattern--namely, that we're swimming in so much information, it's a constant battle to get people's
attention. Some have suggested that attention is the really important currency of this point in time.

I'm using Twitter primarily as a marketing tool for the novel. Getting potential readers interested in the author, story, etc. are all part of that. So,
yes, sometimes the "tweets" aren't as informative, but it's a way to connect and inject some personality. Social networking sites aren't
for everyone, so if you have a low tolerance for "personal advertising" or ego-centricity, stay away.
