The song "Police Me" is so there. TA: I don't know that's going to happen. We've never met. I thought one day about doing a duets record and that down the line that could be something … I don't know. WCT: Would you be up for meeting Kate? TA: No. That would be frustrating! [ Laughs ] No, that would be fun. I must tell you, doing songs like "Police Me," that was big fun.

What does the Kate "silence" mean? Is she refraining from speaking about someone she doesn't like? You know, doing the "If you can't say something nice, don't say..." Had she not heard of TA?--I find that hard to believe. Or is the "silence" some kind of expression of irritation, as if she really things TA did or does "rip her off" as some seem to think? I remember briefly wondering about this when I first read the interview, and I've never been able to come to a conclusion on it. Still unsure. gg

Still unsure. gg I didn't want to say anything, but I agree - that 'silence' is pretty ambiguous. At first I thought Kate was embarrassed or irritated by Tori, then I thought she was silent because she didn't know who she was and tried to cover it up, hence the Rolf Harris bit...Either way, I'm confused

I'm sure there was another interview or piece that highlighted how she felt about TA.

First off, the interviewer asked her a question, and then pretty much overrode Kate's own answer by trying to put words in her mouth. I've assumed that Kate is wise to that music rag kindergarten game of lumping all female artists together into one heterogeneous lump (you've both got red hair, tits, and you both play the piano, etc) and that's why she took a deep breath. She's almost famous for not losing her cool with ignorant interviewers or stooping to their level, hence she good-humouredly mentioned having had to take a deep breath (ie. counting to ten instead of reacting to the interviewer's moronicness) and countered with a quick, smart - slightly absurd -alternative of her own. Just my two pennorth. If that interview had been taped, we'd have far more to go on. But, as it is, it pleases me to tell it this way Second Star, are you out there somewhere?

I don't know if Kate's aware of it, but on this very site for a long time you couldn't get away from the slaggings off of Tori. Some of the Kate fans who (childishly) accused Tori of ripping off Kate tried to create this kind of mythology based on snobbery and intolerance. Second Star, are you out there somewhere?

I recall Kate not being too chuffed at being compared with Madonna on that ''Whistle Test' interview,.....and Madonna isn't renouned for having red hair or playing the piano. I don't think Kate likes being compared with any female artist....I think she prefers the male comparisons.

I mean I know that we sometimes attribute a lot of Kate's insular knowledge of current music to the 'I'd never heard Madonna till Live Aid' quote, but that was a long time ago, and even recently she's been quoted as saying she likes Antony and the Johnsons, so the bubble can't be that big! I can well imagine at many points someone close to her has said, 'Listen to this bird they say you sound like' (re Tori) and Kate has probably thought, 'WHAT!?'
