Yes, to me it's more along these lines than a literal death. I look at it as trying to encourage someone who you care about who is struggling. You want them to believe in themselves as much as you do, but that only THEY can change their situation. You want them to realize how wonderful they really are. All you can do is be there to support and understand them and show them that you care about them. Also I think when someone is struggling, they sometimes reject love/help...which is kind of what the last line means to me. maluslokus wrote:No, I can't see this song being about someone dying, or God for that matter. To me it's a much more obvious song! It's about a person who is depressed, or at least in a very bad time of their life. And in order to change it, "only you can do something about it", as "there's no one there, any better!" And while "I might know what you mean when you say you fall apart,", since "we're all the same", you're not alone in this! In fact, "I can see angels standing around you", there are good people all around you who actually care about you, if only you could see it for yourself! "But you don't know it". And they would help you! "And they will carry you o'er the walls". If you need us, just call!" So all is not bad, we're here, but it's up to you to do something about it.

I don't find it a contradiction exactly. I think one is sometimes able to perceive things on a subconscious level without really "knowing" something. rascalscoundrel wrote:I think the difficulty I'm having is that the last line seems to contradict the one before it. Can you feel something without knowing it? I just don't understand what she's saying here. Anyway I'm not letting that get in the way of my enjoyment of this ravishing piece of music. It took me a while to come around to this one but I find it breathtaking now.

Dunno, just thinking...

There was a rumour long before the album announcement that there's a song named 'Among Angels' and it's about Him or both of Kate's parents. I think that's a beautiful interpretation.

At first this song was a neutral experience but now I don't know how I missed the beauty of it. But then I didn't try, didn't try to make sense of it, musically or lyrically, just waited and it delivered!rascalscoundrel wrote: I'm not sure I do know what those lyrics mean "There's someone who's loved you forever but you don't know it. You might feel it and just not show it."
How many glasses have you had? Only one but I've been refilling it!

I think these lines are at the crux of the song, "you don't know it" is repeatedIf you have feelings for someone that you try to hide you probably have a secret wish that the object of your affections has noticed, you delude yourself with the cold comfort of the notion that maybe they have some vague inkling but not acted on it or acknowledged it. That is better than acepting that they might be oblivious to you or ar aware that you might have feelings! The more I think about itthe sadder I feel!
