Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I can make out three different ideas here: (1) We have choices all the time in our lives that we habitually ignore; (2) Reality is created by the mind, rather than the reverse as we generally have learned to think; (3) The physical universe, at the tiniest levels, is ruled by quantum mechanics, where things are less certain, and more mutable, than we are accustomed to seeing at larger scales. Any of those ideas is open to question, but may have validity. The trouble is that this film does nothing to show links between those three concepts. Which is a nice way of saying that it's New Age rubbish. It also annoyed me because of those subtitles, which I assume must be in Portugese. It would be one thing if I could make out essentially none of it. If it was Spanish, I could probably just about make it out. But since it's sort of like Spanish but not quite the same, it really messes with my mental processes.

There's nothing wrong with that. It's recognized as pedagogical exaggeration. But the movie gradually moves to quantum 'insights' that lead a woman to toss away her antidepressant medication, to the quantum channeling of Ramtha, the 35,000-year-old Atlantis god, and on to even greater nonsense." "Most laypeople cannot tell where the quantum physics ends and the quantum nonsense begins, and many are susceptible to being misguided," (Physics Today) I liked the presentation of the double slit experiment. One article about this topic is here. There is a basic conflict between these two common postulates: (1) that the Experimenter makes free will choices; and (2) that the Experimenter "discovers" a state of affairs that pre-existed the measurement, which is to say that reality exists independent of the Experimenter's choice. It seems that free choice is incompatible with existence in the absence of choice, because either existence determines the "choice"; or the choice creates an existence which did not pre-exist. To put it another way, if there is existence in the absence of choice, then that existence must dictate the specifics of every choice, and so no choice is free; if there is free choice, then that choice must dictate the nature of existence. There is a "conflict between the belief in free choice and the belief in a physical reality prior to that choice." I only skip-read the article a little, so I can't comment on how good or bad it is. But it seems like there is still some huge mystery behind this old experiment...
