My all-time favourite album is Virginia Astley's debut album 'From Gardens Where We Feel Secure' which is almost wholly instrumental.There after she recorded three albums of songs. Kate has always been known for albums of songs but would fans find it too difficult to accept if she now recorded an instrumental album featuring either short or long form tracks? Personally I'd welcome a totally new approach,especially considering the instrumental sections of previous songs like 'Hello Earth', 'The Fog' & 'Experiment IV' (12" version).

Kate is also a writer, she communicates in words through her voice, using it as an instrument. She has got such an emotional, rich voice that it would be a waste to produce an album with just a bunch of instrumental tracks. As long as her desire to be the storyteller is alive, I think she will keep on singing her own songs, as she used to when she was a little girl. Doing something (in theory) like Enya or Yoko Ono or some of Bjork's songs where the voice is not singing words but being used as an instrument would be better. But still, Kate's lyrics are a very important part of her appeal to me. - Richard -------- If I could sing like a blackbird... just like my heart was filled with summer.

Every song needn't have vocals, but I love her voice. "Aerial Tal" is one of my favorites on AERIAL. And, frequently, the parts I like most about her songs with lyrics are the portions that when she's just making sounds (talking to the birds, talking in tongues, talking backwards, etc.) gg

Black Emperor and Do Make Say Think are among my favourites, and they're instrumental (although DMST have had guest vocalists on a few tracks), so it's not an aversion to that type of music, but yes, I think I'd be disappointed. But regardless, I can't see it happening. At least not for an entire album. But what do I know?

I have the double layered Sensual World 12" which has a vocal and non-vocal version of the song on the same side, and it always bothered me when the instrumental version came on - it was only interesting the first time I heard it. For me Kate's music needs her voice to work the magic. But not vice versa. I'd love an acapella album!

It'd feel like Shakespeare writing a play entirely in stage directions. Probably still good, but perhaps a bit of a waste. Of course ultimately I'd take what I could get and be happy with that.
