I'm just so very glad that Kate's conducted her public like the way she has. Who knows what would have happened had she decided to tour every year or decided that it was best to sign with a publicist who wanted her face in front of people every waking hour of the day. Ooh, it's so awful thinking of the creepy Hollywood types that Kate might have met and, perhaps, befriended! It isn't a pretty picture. Speaking of which, has Kate ever been to LA? Any one know how far she's gotten in to the U.S.? gg

That's interresting. Maybe she would have wait even more time between her albums, due to exhaustion. Touring is great for fans but it kills artists, look how many bands exploded because touring was too exhausting and too expensive... Re-mastering good old albums is like photoshopping Mona Lisa.

Any one know how far she's gotten in to the U.S.? AFAIK Kate has only visited the US on three occasions-in 1978, 1985, and around 1991, and I've never heard of her going to anywhere except New York. OTOH who knows where she might've gone without public knowledge. I would expect she could do a lot of traveling in the US without anyone recognizing her.

Well, Julien, since it appears you're an Al Stewart fan, I guess I have to take you seriously. Now you have my curiosity up about that Do It Again cover--but I can't find it on YouTube. Bummer. I, too, have always failed to see the connection from Tori to Kate. Other than that they're and they're both white (mostly!), female piano players, there doesn't seem to be much resemblance. And I've never turned on to Tori, either, but it's just one of those things, is the way I've always looked at it. Can't find any particular thing that I find objectionable, but the chemistry just isn't there. (And for that matter, though Kate seems like a very nice lady, maybe unusually so, I don't ascribe any major heroic character traits to her--certain regions of my brain just get a major bang out of listening to her. In each case, it's pretty much beyond rational explanation. (And the same with Jacko BTW--just no chemistry there.)

She's one singer amongst many singers I could stand to hear when the radio plays them in a public place. Hence, I have heard a lot of Amos songs and none of them ever caught me. Regarding the Steely Dan cover - well, I really like "Do it again", so when I learned Amos made a cover of it, I looked for it on YouTube and found it (strange you can't find it now). Okay, I prefer Kate's music to Jackson's by far - very far. But come on guys, look at the world in a wide, not only your own tastes. Jackson played a major role in contemporary culture, like it or not. There is a before and an after Jackson. Loving Kate is a matter of personal story. I could say Kate is my own personal fantasy. But Jackson is a worldwide phenomenon. The fact that so many people - both fans and artists - were touched by him means something else than "most people are @+!#$*% unable to see why Kate is a thousand times better than Jackson". In matter of influence over our world, society, cultural world, artistic sphere, Jackson is far bigger than Kate - even if Kate is also influencial in her own rights for many people in all these domains. To me, comparing Kate/MJ to Van Gogh/Bob Ross is very highly snobbish. I am almost certain Kate herself would share my opinion and not yours, btw. Of course, I'm not basing this on anything I'm just assuming. She probably also prefers Assam to Darjeeling, and the original Rear Window to Rambo 3.

Well, after Bob Ross did help a lot of people learn to paint. (And no doubt MJ inspired a lot of kids to learn to dance-at least, in a manner of speaking.) How about Van Gogh vs Diego Rivera? No, actually I think Van Gogh vs Bob Ross is probably the more apt comparison.

Everything you said in the first three paragraphs is completely true, which is why the Van Gogh/Bob Ross comparison is perfect.
