A few days ago,there was a report on french tv France 2 about a parental abduction which hapenned 2 years ago: a son was kidnapped by his pakistanese father and since then no news about them.This story is quite sad in itself but not the only one:
800 parental abduction hapenned in France in 2007.
The point is,i know very well this mother who talks in this report:she's one of my little sister's best friend.

They know each other since the nursery school.Actually,Omer's father had already tried to kidnapped his son once,and after that a law decision was pronounced to forbid to carry away Omer from french territory.Her mother still got his passport;so how his father did ?
She's currently in Pakistan,roaming in the streets in hope to see her son and hanging on her telephone to have news from her lawyer,or pakistanese authorities or anyone else which could help her finding her son.

No, thankfully I don't. I think it's a more common problem than is reported. Truly awful for the parent left at 'home' without their child and of course, for the child.

Yes, I do. A woman I knew at university had returned to study as a way to try to piece her life back together following her husband taking their children back to his native Iran without her consent or knowledge. (For some reason - and I'm not sure why - I'm hesitating to use the word 'abducted' although that's certainly how she would have described it and I would agree that's what had happened.) They had compeltely vanished, despite several years trying to track them down. I lost touch with her after graduating, so I don't know if she was ever reunited with them, but it was impossible to comprehend what she had been through, It was devastating to hear her talk about it.

I'd agree with Ian: it's probably a lot more common than it is reported. I'd imagine, given the international factor that is often present, that many mothers would not feel they had the capacity, or in some cases sadly even the rights, to fight it due to the social position they occupy either in the country to which their children have been taken, or as a member of a minority group in the west.

I have a wonderful new friend who this happened to in Equador.
Her husband was from Equador and they lived there together with their two little sons. The husband actually took the oldest son and abducted him and my friend had a huge search and legal battle to get her son back. I think it took her 6 months.
She now lives back in England with her sons and is divorced from her husband although he now lives here too and remarkably they have a decent relationship and she allows him to see the boys etc. I feel she is such a brave lady and an incredible inspiration. Her story is obviously much more complex, Ive only described it simply. I cant imagine the torment any parent would go through at the abduction of a child, it is something I find unbearable to even think about

iam very sorry about this ... it really upsets me , that this happnes .. it is sadly very selfish to kidnap a baby from the other parent...for watever reason.. your sister freind have a team of trusted people and the police invesgation to keep on looking for them .. somone does know wear her son is ...

like Deborah said about her new freind ,.. it may take 6 months or so but... you shall never give up .. something got to gove .. and i,ll save a prayer for your little sieter freind and her baby boy safly return happily again in her arms ..

Being a mum, I can imagine how aweful this must be. I do know I would do anything and everything I possibly could to get my child back - even roaming the streets in a foreign country sounds possible. My heart goes out to these women (and some men, I guess).
