Posts: 3338 (July 29, 2009 21:03:11) Admin Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None This has just gone out in a HomeGround email update: The Future of HomeGround magazine Having very seriously considered the future of the magazine, we have decided that we will cease "regular" production with the next issue no.79 which we are hoping to get out in the Autumn. However, HomeGround as an entity is not going to disappear. We will still be involved with the KBNI/HomeGround bulletin board, and our aim will be to publish special issues of the magazine at appropriate times such as album releases. We will also continue to hold the Glastonbury Gatherings and Wuthering Hikes every year. There will be readers with unexpired portions of subscriptions after issue 79. Anyone who wants a refund please let us know, otherwise we will hold unexpired subscriptions against future special issues. We want to make issue 79 a very special magazine, so your contributions would be very welcome. Once we start work on the magazine we'll send out a further update. Could I ask as to the cause? Lack of time? - could you use the board to ask for extra help, specialist editing skills? Lack of new content? Judging by the board, discussion still seems to be in rude health and judging from recent serious music journalism and academic interest, we're entering a golden age of KT- studies. Lack of visuals? Symphony of Flowers appears to have an inexhaustible supply of amazing images I've never seen before... Of course, after 79 issues anyone is entitled to give it a rest - would you prefer an entirely new publication to be started with no connection to 'Homeground'?

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Given that the KBC saw the writing on the wall a couple of decades back (and that was well before the competition from the internet), its a credit to the Homeground team that they've managed to keep up with the quality and quantity of work for as long as they have done. Stand alone 'major event' issues do make sense although I doubt I'll still be around to celebrate the 100th issue.

Moving Posts: 107 (July 30, 2009 09:01:24) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Very, very sorry to hear this, as an avid regular of the magazine and because of the magazine, have met many special people, most of which have become friends, obviously this is sad news. I can understand the way Homeground must have taken over your lives and I can only imagine it's time consuming and the demands it makes on you. We all have lives away from Kate and you both have been the life of the magazine, through the highs of new material and the long lows. Would it not be possible to produce something once a year to keep the title going? I have to say I much prefer a hard copy of something to the virtual. I know it costs less to be on a computer rather than a magazine, but you can keep a magazine and pick it up. What ever your decision you will have a loyal following, as for issues when albums are released, well, lets be realistic, there may be a couple more new releases then maybe a greatest hits compilation...........at the most. We have a lot to thank Kate for, but as it has always been, she is an individual who does what she wants, as we all must do, to be true to ourselves. We are thankful she doesn't do the celebrity thing and the more quality as a person and artist shows through for that. Good on Kate for that, but also good on you for processing 79 issues and lets hope some more besides. Thank you Peter and Krys for all you vocation to Kate and Homeground, and long may you continue in work, virtual or otherwise. With love to both, Steve. XX It lay buried here, it lay deep inside me. I feel privileged to have met so many great people because of it. In fact I can't describe the feeling of picking up the phone at Mike's to find I was actually talking to Krys. I can't even recall the message I passed on lol! Have you thought about publishing in pdf format? This would remove the expense and stress of the printing side of it all. To be frank it's difficult to pin down any one reason why we think the time is right now for this. Amongst the factors that have gone into this decision is the now very long gaps between Kate's albums, although we were never particularly short of material; that the internet has virtually completely taken over the news gathering function - though we do remember that some people are still not hunched over a screen; that when we are making an issue it consumes almost all of spare time and a lot of our non-spare time for months on end. Samphire hits this one on the head. In the end it's probably that we think a particular phase has come to an end, in many ways as Kestrel noted, it came to an end with The Red Shoes and the last convention, and we need to start a new cycle. Does that make any sense? Actually as we are doing the book we are learning new ways of compositing and publishing. PDF's are something we are very much bearing in mind, if only as a far better way of providing final and complete copy to the printer. So it may be that once this year is out of the way we might find a new approach to periodic publishing. As to whether we would "prefer an entirely new publication to be started with no connection to 'Homeground'", anyone is free to do this at any time. As part of the book yesterday I put together a graphic of the various Kate Bush fanzines which appeared in the 1980s. There were 15 of them, and we might not have gathered them all. We were effectively the first up, and may be the last down, but the field is always open to others. Thanks to all of you who cared. Thanks to everyone who contributed. Thanks to all of those who stuck and stuffed. Thanks to all of those who patiently waited. I've never been that sort of fan. If I like an artist I usually just listen to the music, but I enjoyed Kate's radio interview when Aerial came out, and reading some of the information on here, about her sources of inspiration and so on, makes me realise how interesting it would have been to follow her career more closely. I feel I've missed out, but I'm really looking forward to the book. "There is only here and now and this"

Too bad for me indeed. Well, I'll have a better chance with your future projects. Maybe I'll find a way to help you somehow, albeit modestly. I'll follow your next publications with a lot of interrest. Congrats, guys. I haven't had a chance to see your work but I know too well how difficult it is to work on such a project. You really deserve congratulations. Re-mastering good old albums is like photoshopping Mona Lisa.

I still vividly remember finding a copy in the Virgin Megastore (as was) in London, and was so excited! Sadly I no longer have that issue - number 4 or 5 I think it was, the front picture was a ghostly Cathy sticking her hand through the window at Wuthering Heights - but have been along for the whole ride since that first discovery, have scoured every inch of every issue, and 'received it with a strange delight' every time it popped solidly through my letterbox, which was actually a variety of letterboxes down through the years. I've laughed at the cartoons, been stunned by the beautiful stories, poems and artwork, fascinated by the Medialog and thoroughly enjoyed being a member of this particular club. But most of all HomeGround has, for me, been the lynchpin around which I have found some wonderful friends, a great Kate focussed community and a place where I can share and indulge in my love of Kate's music and artistry. I am so happy that all the long years of dedication, determination, struggle, sticking and stuffing, and no doubt at times total exasperation have finally resulted in a book, The Best of Homeground, which will be a fitting acknowledgement and lasting memorial to the hard work and love that has kept HG going through good times and diversity, been a lifeline for the more isolated Kate appreciator, and a constant and honest body of work full of colour, love, imagination and talent. I perfectly understand your position, and I know it's up to you to take the responsibility, but just wanted to share my thoughts about the magazine with the others. So many people have beautifully expressed their recognition and gratitude, and I can't add much more to the incredible amount of love and wishes that have been sent to your door lately. For me, Homeground will always be the beautiful proof of your dediKation through the years. You have been precious and, for those living abroad like me, almost the only honest source of information about Kate and her work, especially since her decision to take a step back from the scene. So I suppose this is just my 'thankyou' note for you, for your work and for the way you have changed my life for the better - Krys, if you read this, you know that I really mean it. Apart from embarrassing moments concerning Kate's drawers, I'd say this has been a truly magnificent time together... I still remmeber my excitement at getting that first photocopied, stapled half illegible magazine THAT WAS ALL ABOUT KATE!! I'm staggered, humbled and grateful that you have kept it going for quite so long. It's been a constand friend and presence in my life since then, and as time has gone on, the two of you have become so too. Maybe "never say never" but it feels kind of right. I know how much it takes out of the two of you to have to put it all together, and maybe it is time for a break from that pressure (once the book is over anyway). Though if I had to lay bets, I wouldn;t be suprised if you start feeling you want to knock one out after a while. Life's like that.... Hugs, MIke xxxxx
