Moving Posts: 171 Jul 23 12 2:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I was playing 'The Big Sky', and when she sings the part 'We're leaving with big sky, honey,' it got me thinking about how years later she wrote about 'a sky of honey'. I believe some of Kate's songs constantly refer to one another. Would anyone like to share some more input if they have recognised any obvious lyrical links between her albums and songs?

Posts: 4452 Jul 23 12 3:39 AM Local user Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't know if it makes these songs connected, but she does have an affinity for hills and mountains (TKI, RuTH, MoP, KoTM, TSW & FotM, WM). There are also a few Kings (SIYL, King Is Dead, KotM) some helicopters (PotP, WtW, Ex4, TRS), a couple of mentions of Hollywood (CitW, KotM), a few stars of the celestial variety (Kite ["diamond night"], Saxaphone Song, Sunset, Nocturn, Lyra) and even before Aerial, some birds (OEML [live], AWELF, TD, NotS, DU). I do think a lot of the songs on Aerial reference her earlier lyrics and musical motifs.

Running (Up That Hill) Posts: 438 Jul 23 12 4:21 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, we have "Constellation Of The Heart" where she sings: "We take all the telescopes And we turn them inside out And we point them away from the big sky" And we have "Waking The Witch" there they quote "We are of the going water and the gone. We are of water in the holy land of water" from "Jig Of Life" and "Get out of the waves! Get out of the water!" from "Hello Earth". There is one more I can think of, but I don't know if it's deliberate. On "Oh To Be In Love" she sings "Stop the swing of the pendulum! Let us through!" and on "Between A Man And A Woman" she sings "Let the pendulum swing between a man and a woman." You give me life. Please don't let me go. You crush the lily in my soul.

Running (Up That Hill) Posts: 811 Jul 24 12 7:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	There's the little fish swimming between Mrs Bartolozzi's legs, and the tiny fish that soak the sheets in the early demo The Craft Of Love, but I doubt that's a deliberate call-back, especially since the latter was never officially released, just Kate re-using imagery that appeals to her. That's probably the case with most of these lyrical echoes, except for the use of "Just being alive, etc." in both Moments Of Pleasure and Constellation Of The Heart, where the nod to The Big Sky is also likely to be deliberate, and the mention of Cloudbusting in You Want Alchemy. Kate referred to quite a few other songs in her lyrics around that period - like "Not Only Women Bleed" in Eat The Music, and the cartwheels cross the floor from A Whiter Shade Of Pale in You're The One. Throw in "What am I singing? A song of seeds" and she seemed to be having a post-modern phase.
