Hi guys, the board hasn't migrated to Yuku yet, I will have announcements in every single part of this forum AND www.katebushnews.com when it finally happens...NO-ONE is going to suddenly find themselves out in the cold/dark whatever. I DO encourage you to use the link in your profile to change to a Yuku profile to play around with it and see what you can do with it...you can do this today even though all our forum hasn't migrated. Your profiles will migrate across with everything else, i.e. ALL our members will be members in the new version. That's good to know isn't it? You will even still use the same login and password.
There IS a place on Yuku right now (let's call it a placeholder page) that we can look at where our forum will eventually be when the migration is complete. It's here. But none of our posts or forums/categories have migrated yet. So don't worry, you are in the right place here on our EZboard version till that happens. You'll see from the placeholder page that the Yuku version of our forum looks very similar (yay!). And I've had a bit of fun with my own profile, adding some photos, displaying my favourite websites etc. Watch this EZboard forum for now for updates and announcements. It'll all be fine and you all know where we are if you get muddled when it happens. Remember if you feel totally lost I am available via www.katebushnews.com
****End of UPDATE****
I've just sent the following email out to all our forum members:
Hi all,
Seán here (Bfenby), an admin for the Homeground & KBNI forum. Just an update on the message you've been seeing on our EZboard forum that we're migrating this week to the new Yuku format. There's a lot involved here and we'll try to put what info we have on the forum to make this as stress-free as possible for you all. There's quite a bit in all this - so make yourself a cuppa, take a deep breath, and read on!
Basically, EZboard (the company we pay to host our forum) took the decision a couple of years ago to not upgrade its software anymore but instead to migrate all existing boards to an improved version (with more features) called Yuku.
Peter, Krys, Mike and I resisted changing our board over for as long a time as possible, and to their credit EZboard allowed admins to elect to manually migrate their boards at their own pace. BUT now EZboard is being finally phased out and the change to Yuku is happening *involuntarily* i.e. whether we like it or not.
As an admin I am hearing that once the entire contents of our forum migrates to Yuku there will be a window, possibly 48 hours or so, when both versions, the old EZboard one and the new Yuku 'mirror' will be running at the same time but that the old one will then disappear. During this window new posts made to the old EZboard forum WILL NOT be duplicated on the Yuku version of our forum. This is a pain, but a temporary one...if you see posts everywhere that the Yuku forum is live please think about only posting on our yuku forum as your recent post could be lost.
Yuku will apparently be ad-free for now (which we like) BUT I am hearing that we may be presented with ads in our *profiles* (which we don't like!). For now Yuku is "free" and they have no definite plans for what we should do with the money in our Community Chest untill a premium paid option in Yuku is introduced. I am closing our Community Chest to stop collecting anymore contributions but have kept a record of every single transaction made since 2004, and our current Chest balance just as we are assured that Yuku will also.
We are assured by Yuku staff that ALL posts, ALL forums, ALL members and their profiles will migrate across.
So far I am reading about only two things that might be lost:
1) Polls - not the posts in topics which start as polls, they'll remain, but the poll results themselves. Sadly EZboard polls and Yuku polls just aren't compatible!!
2) Local users may lose their PMs in their inboxes. Now, I've always been a little confused as to why some of us are Local users and some of us are Global users on EZboard but this problem with losing PMs in inboxes does seem to only effect LOCAL users. Advice: save any PMs you really need to keep.
Other than that, there will be a lot of new features, settings, things to click on, ways to compose messages and PMs...frankly it will be new to all of us but we'll get there. My advice: have a bit of fun with it and try not to get frustrated - we'll all help each other as much as possible! I have saved the theme and colour details and am ready to make our Yuku forum look as similar to our Ezboard forum as possible...it WILL be black and brown, it WILL have the familar banners that Brian has designed.
It WILL still be our same forum!
Thanks,
Sean x
p.s. Sorry this email to you all is so long, but I wanted to get as much of this stuff down as I could.
